A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE
'Twas the day of the party, when all through the room, the members were gathered, the room to festoon.
The presents were placed by the chimney with care, and we hoped that our luncheon soon would be there.
We ordered our drinks and chatted away, caught up on the news and events of the day.
We were dressed to the ‘nines’ in our holiday garb and some of us hoped that our meals were low-carb!
When out in the hallway there arose such a clatter, the waiters appeared holding trays and a platter.
We flew to our chairs placing napkins on knees, pulled down the shades and turned on the AC (it was hot)
The sun on the boats bobbing back, to and fro gave a luster of midday to the harbor below.
When what to our wondering eyes should appear but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer, with a little old driver so lively and quick, we alI knew in a moment it must be St. Nick!
(Not Quite – that’s a stretch even for me - let's try again!!)
When what to our wondering eyes should appear, but a dashing young gent with a Beardie so dear!!
More rapid than eagles, we all strained our necks, and whistled and shouted and wondered, what’s next?
They stood in the doorway an unlikely pair, from where had they come, fixing them with a stare.
A Beardie Surprise at our party so cool, added joy and excitement to our Christmas yule.
We learned that the Beardie had a call name of Aspen and her parent was Steve which left us all gaspin’
No dashing away before we learn more, please come in and sit, have some vittles and more!
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
Not so with this Fluff Ball who flopped to the floor and fell fast asleep with barely a snore!
From San Marcos they came and had been puppy training and thought they'd pop by for some fun entertaining.
We ate pumpkin pie and swapped emails and names, discussed upcoming events and all our Club's aims.
As lunch drew to a close, Steve scooped up wee Aspen, we gave her some squeakies and couldn't help askin'
How did you find us? How'd you know where to go, we don't advertise parties, we'd sure like to know?
As we warmly shook hands saying we would be in touch, Steve cuddled Miss Aspen, smiling thanks very much,
And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight, Merry Christmas to all,
